Twinkly Dave – Mud splattered bicycle and pizza enthusiast Growing old disgracefully

I ride bikes, sometimes fast, sometimes slow, usually for a long time, because bikes are brilliant.

When I’m not riding bikes i’m usually at work, slacking off as best I can, hence the existence of this site.

If you’re confused by the “twinkly” moniker, it came from a┬ásite a tutor on a “Dreamweaver MX” course set up for me to test; people found out what it was called, took the piss and sadly┬áthe name stuck

  1. HI Dave,

I saw your post on Singletrackworld, on the 29er wheels.

I’m planning to get a set of light wheels, maybe also with the Dt supercomp spokes. Are these indeed OK?
the don’t snap at the end of the spoke?

    Best Regards Rolf

  2. How do!

Yep, been running them since April last year without any snapping incidents – they’ve survived a good few ‘tweaks’ with the spoke key too

  3. Hi Dave,
not sure if you remember us, but Terri and I used to live around the corner from your mum and dad in Moreton – in fact I bought one of your old mountain bikes! We had a little girl, Morgan while we lived there and your parents were surrogate grandparents! After we moved to Canada we’ve kept in touch but not so much over the last year or so. Anyway long story short, we will be back in the UK the last week of june and we want to see your mum and dad, haven’t had any luck in contacting them on the phone and I can’t find a full email address for them. In a moment of inspiration I remembered your website!
Could you pass on their current info or let them know we’re trying to get in touch?
thanks so much and best wishes.

  4. Hi Dave just wondered what size is the on one lurcher you use? I’m 6 2″ and can’t decide between either a 19.5″ or a 21″?
    Any advice gratefully received.

  5. Hi Dan, I’m 5’11” and ride a 19.5 comfortably. I think Phil Simcock rides a 21″ and is about the same height as you.

If you’re using it for more XC based stuff I’d probably go with the 21, if it’s more techy stuff the 19.5 would give more standover and a slightly shorter top tube…

  6. Hi Dave,

looking for advice, i did the ten under ben this year. Was a pretty grim event for me, no mtb training beforehand because of injury, then i had a plan to use bottles of energy drink, one every lap at changeover, and one energy bar and gel each lap thought would do it. I struggled to eat the bars as couldnt digest on move, and ended up having about 15 gels in the ten hours plus my energy drink. Got stomach cramps and cramp in legs which i never get! Doing puffer solo in jan and looking for some advice re nutrition for 24hrs, this will be my first one, any chance you can get in touch with me on my e mail with advice what you do, going to ask Jason Miles to?? ps, big thanks for sorting my rear mech while on course on ten under ben, very good of you when racing, cheers robbie
