Stainburn and moorland

rich at the top of the red run
After reading last month’s MBR and feeling like we should do some more technical based riding rich and I headed over to Stainburn to “session” their “rad” trails (i’m still trying out the lingo).
The Red route was fun, nothing overly stupid, the sort of thing you’d like to last for a long time. The Black run lived up to it’s billing. Much walking/scooting was done and many excuses were uttered. We’ll be going back there at some point to clear more of the trail and regain a bit of credibility.
me on the red run
In order to get a bit more of a ride out of the day we headed over to Bolton Abbey, paid a fortune to park the car and explored a bridleway that seemed to go over a nice big hill. It did and was mucho fun, even with the crazy wind. We met the huddersfield and west yorkshire rough riders (i think that’s what they were called), who seemed happy and chatty and also ended up being perfectly placed to open all the gates on the descent for us, which was a stroke of luck.

Some pics of the red route at stainburn are up here for you.

  1. 1: Looks very deforested!
2: Please get a Flickr account.
    3: I need a silly bell 🙂

  2. After much twisting, pulling and about a gallon of oil/WD40 sprayed down my seat tibe, I managed to get the seatpost and shim out of my frame.

When we go back to Stainburn I will be able to lower my seat, and that will be one less excuse I will have not to ride some of the black route.

I had a look on the website last night, and they are in the process of building an even more technical trail, which should be interesting!

  3. 1)the deforested bits were, the undeforested bits were very narrow and treelined (and steep, and cornery, and rocky)
2)maybe soon as i’m running out of space on the fotopic account
    3)yes, everyone does, they rock

    even more technical??
like the black run wasn’t technical enough??
bloody eck it’ll just end up being like a brick wall in the middle of the path, with a big pendulum swinging across to knock you off if you stop…

The sagas of the silly bell. Everyone wants on, where do you get them? Well they seem an underground On-One item, the offered some in a recent priceshaggers – but must have sold out very rapidly. At least I failed to get one on the saturday – put in the order OK, but when checking stock they had none.

Was also shown in the latest priceshaggers, but with zero stock.

Hald wonder if its just an On_one teaser

  5. Oh I don’t want a Ladybug one, they’re for mincing jeyboys. 😉

  6. Mincing jeyboys! Those Ladybug bells are due to become an On-One classic, a must have item. Question is are you man enough to ride with a ladybug on the bars?

Talking of manly, can’t help but wonder what that black route was like. Hey, even the red route from the pictures didn’t too too trivial to me!
