Growing old disgracefully

  • Open12

Looks like another wet endurance event for me this weekend; this time the Open12 in the Peaks.

Tonight will be mostly spent packing a kit bag without really knowing what we (me and rich) will be doing during the race! The organisers mention “stomach tightening” special stages and insist each team has items such as gardening gloves and swimming goggles with them!

Suffice to say I’ve not done any running in preperation for it (I think i’ll use it as an excuse to kick start my running training for the 3 peaks later in the year) and my navigational skills are still fairly poor so it should be interesting to say the least…

So where in the peak does the event take place – just has a schmozzle through the site and no directions, maps, etc?

the registration and finish are in a school (no idea what it’s called, sadly) off swallow house lane in hayfield

if you have a look at the control descriptions pdf it’s got a vague map of where each state takes place and exactly where in hayfield you turn up to register

Balls ! I didn’t know about this event and I only live 3 miles away in New Mills, never mind, always next year – Nice going at Mayhem by the way Dave! Think you whizzed past me and I was in a team of 5!

If we had known we could have popped in for a pint, we were taking it quite easy towards the end. Dave had had enough of running. He ran a lot of the second bike stage after putting a 4 inch gash in this rear tyre.
